I used to think Barnum was a "food desert," but there are a lot of small local grocers in the neighborhood. Within walking distance of the Barnum boundaries (Alameda, Federal, Highway 6, and Sheridan), there is Mi Pueblo and Carniceria Zacatecas, who are both at the 1st and Knox intersection, and Carniceria Guadalajara, next to the donut place on 1st and Sheridan. If you want to cross the major busy streets, there is Carniceria La Sierra on the southwest corner of Alameda and Hazel, and the Vietnamese grocery store, Viet Hoa, near Cedar and Sheridan.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Though, I tend to patron the ethnic grocery shops for what I consider "specialty items," and King Soopers for my "regular shopping." So, part of me was bummed when Viet Hoa moved into the Sheridan and Alameda center (instead of King Soopers, Safeway, or Sprouts). So it goes.Still, I'm stoked to have so many resources. Where I grew up, you couldn't just go buy nori cause you got a hankering to make sushi or onigiri. Variety is the spice of life, right?
DeleteThe business listed under "70 Knox Ct. Denver, CO 80219" should be revised to "Carniceria Zacatecas" not "Carniceria Czaccapecas"
